Spiritual Direction

What is Spiritual Direction?  What does a Spiritual Director do?

A spiritual director is a mentor, companion, and guide who helps you cultivate spiritual wellbeing in the areas of love, wisdom, and action in the world.  You do not have to be religious to talk with a spiritual director.  I will listen to you, talk with you, and perhaps recommend practices to encourage you in your process.

A spiritual director is called to the work through discernment in prayer, life experience, training, and requests from others.

Who Can Benefit from Spiritual Direction?

  • Anyone with questions about their spiritual life, even if they are not religious or part of a worshiping community. You do not have to have a problem or crisis to seek spiritual direction. Everyday life presents questions that seek a caring yet impartial hearing.

  • People facing changes in work, relationships, way of life, or health.

  • Anyone who serves others in a position of public trust.

  • Clergy, seminarians, and people wondering about a call to ordination.

  • Anyone who works to support others’ physical, emotional, or spiritual wellbeing.

Ethics

Listening, Not Interfering

Your beliefs, non-beliefs, questions, and practices are up to you.  Spirituality is not about fixating on answers.  It is about becoming a person of loving, wise action.

Ability, age, economic status, education, ethnicity, gender expression, sexual identity, race, religion/ non-religion—all these shape spirituality.  My aim is to pay attention to how these factors affect your spirituality so you can live in wholeness, courage, and joy. I am highly committed to serving Trans, Genderfluid, Nonbinary, Queer, Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual people.

Spiritual direction is confidential, unless there is a threat of immediate harm to self or others, or harm to a vulnerable person (child, elder, disabled person) is disclosed.
