About Shirley Banks
Prior to becoming a Spiritual Director, Shirley was a sexuality counselor and educator for twenty-five years, during which time they provided counseling, gave presentations, and taught short courses and workshops. Shirley earned a Master of Theological Studies degree at Emory University Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, Georgia. At Candler, they wrote a thesis on the development of Buddhism in the United States. Shirley has been an Episcopalian since 1988 and has studied the Dharma (Buddhist teachings) since 2001.
Shirley was called to the ministry of spiritual direction in 2014. Shirley is completing a Certificate in Spiritual Direction at George Fox University.
Shirley lived in Georgia for many years before moving back to her home state of Alaska. They serve as a chaplain to elders in Anchorage, Alaska.
